9 days trip
The Tsiribihina River and the Tsingy of Bemaraha mixed together :
> Circuit : Tana – Antsirabe – Miandrivazo – River
trip – Tsingy of Bemaraha – Baobabs - Morondava
This is to combine the canoe trip and the visit of the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park.
After the river, driving to the Tsingy of Bemaraha for 2 days
exploration of the National Park, driving to visit baobab trees
including the famous Baobab Avenue for sunset pictures, then driving to
Morondava.
Day 1
Tana- Antsirabe : 175 kms distance
- Drive from Tana to Antsirabe, see handcraft market on the way,
beautiful landscape of the Merina tribe area, the everyday life of the
Merina people.
- Visit of Antsirabe : the hot spring city with its rickshaws, semiprecious stones, lakes…

Day 2
Antsirabe- Miandrivazo : 220 kms distance
- Drive from Antsirabe to Mandrivazo
NB : Miandrivazo is the Sakalava people’s village where starts the canoe trip
Picnic lunch between the 2 cities, beautiful landscape on the way

Day 3
- First day on the river :
Sakalava tribe’s way of life, beautiful scenery and landscape, birding, chameleons
Lunch on the river bank
Get to the gorge of the Tsiribihina for camping :
- CAMPING :
On the river bank, beautiful sunset, stars or moonlight
Day 4
Always on the river :
Exploring the gorge of the Bemaraha area
- Lemurs watching, shower and swim at the waterfall, lunch
- Paddling from the waterfall to the second camping site, in between : walk to visit a Sakalava traditional village.
- Camping :
Always on the river bank : beautiful sunset, stars or moonlight
Day 5
Third and last day on the river : see crocodiles, bats, lemurs and sifakas, baobab trees
Pass across the second gorge, see flying foxes (bats) and other bird
species, crocodiles if lucky then lunch under some trees.
- Walk in the forest to see lemurs and sifakas.
- Finish the river trip once out of the second gorge
- Last night camping
NB : Another possibility is to take a zebu
cart, walk through remote villages then spend the third night in a
basic bungalow where cold drinks are served under a baobab tree.
Day 6
- Drive from the river bank or the bungalow
- Crossing the Tsiribihina River with a ferry
- Lunch time in Belo sur Tsiribihina the Cultural Capitol of the Sakalava tribe
- Driving from Belo sur Tsiribihina to the Tsingy of Bemaraha.
- Overnight in the hotel

Day 7
- Starting the first morning with the visit of the gorge of Manambolo on a dug out canoe.
To see : caves, stalactites, stalagmites, the
famous family tomb of the Vazimba tribe whom lived in the Tsingy in the
17th century, the beautiful gorge of limestone pinnacles
- Back to the Hotel for Lunch
- Afternoon exploration of the beautiful Small Tsingy.
To see : labyrinth of limestones, 2 view points on
the limestones pinnacles formation, the biggest Sifaka (white Lemurs)
called Decken’s Sifaka., red fronted brown Lemurs, Birds species,
spiders …
This tour is a perfect circle which finishes on the Manambolo River’s gorge.
- Driving back to the Hotel
Day 8
- Early starting in the morning to drive 15 Kms to the Big Tsingy (1 hour)
- 4 to 5 hours hiking in the AMAZING Big Tsingy
To see : 30 Meters high cracks, forest’s
canyon where lives lemurs and birds…where the flora is truly
unique with its endemic and medicinal plants, caves, cathedral of
rocks, the indefinite view on the highest roof of the Big
Tsingy…
- Driving back to the hotel for lunch
- Here you can relax by yourselves in the afternoon
- In the evening, hire the local guide for a nocturnal walk to see : chameleons and especially the rare mouse- Lemurs.
- Diner and Overnight in the Hotel.
Day 9
Driving straight back to Morondava :
- Lunch time in Belo sur Tsirbihina
- Crossing the Tsiribihina River with a ferry
- From the other side of the River, driving to be on time and spend the
sunset at the famous Baobab Avenue for pictures of amazing sunset.
- Driving to Morondava
- Overnight in the Hotel.

Info- Gift
1. It is possible to drive straight from Tana to Miandrivazo if you have less time.
2. It is possible to go down the river with only 2 nights camping and get to Tsingy on the 3rd day.
3. If have less time, it’s possible to explore the Small and the
Big Tsingy in 1 day which still needs 2 nights stay in the Hotel in the
Tsingy.
4. The best way to leave Morondava is to fly with Air Madagascar.
5. Young and fit people instead of flying, can take a taxi brousse back
to Tana or Antsirabe to save money; check : Taxi brousse.
6. If you don’t have anytime to go to the beach, Morondava offers
an opportunity to stay on the beach which is on the North of the city.
Also you can visit a fisher’s village of the Vezo people and know
more about this nomad people who work on the sea, camp on small Islands
and only go to Morondava to sell sea food.
NB : Taxi Brousse is the public mean of transport which connects the provinces to Tana
(the center).
